Tips for Flying with kids

Ari and I are all packed and ready to go to Hawaii tomorrow! Ari has not been on a flight since she was a baby and is SO excited to hop on a plane and enjoy a tropical vacation just the two of us! A six hour flight is a long time for a 4 year old so I put together a list of must-have essentials when preparing for a long flight with kids!

This post is brought to you by StarKist and The Motherhood.

All opinions are my own.

  1. Food.

While I pack several easy snacks for Ari to snack on, it’s so important that I also have an easy meal on-hand to really keep her full for a long period of time. StarKist Tuna, Chicken and Salmon creations are the easiest meals on the go! It’s so easy to just tear, eat and go whenever you get hungry.

Ari loves the lemon pepper flavor and the buffalo chicken is my personal favorite. She is pretty picky so I have to stick to simple meals and this one is her top pick. StarKist Creations are also packed with protein so they keep you full for a long period of time–perfect for a long flight! Ari likes stuffing hers inside a croissant and I can just eat the buffalo chicken on its own or with some celery sticks!

2. Activities

My kids get bored when we’re at home, even with all of the million toys they have readily available. Ari’s absolute favorite things to do is color so I’m packing a new coloring book, along with some crayons for her.

She’s learning how to read and I’ll bring books with her to practice on the plane too. I also downloaded a ton of educational games onto her tablet so she can play with them on the flight. A good variety of activities will help keep her entertained for several hours.

3. Comfy clothes

There’s nothing worse than being uncomfortable on a flight. Make sure your kids are wearing their most comfortable clothes so there’s no complaints on the flight. It’s also a good idea to carry a small neck pillow and/or blanket so they can get some rest!

4. Lightweight carry-ons

I’ll be traveling with Ari alone for this trip so I had to be sure I packed super light. She’ll likely have me carry her bag, as well as mine, along with the car seat, etc. so it’s important to pack only what you really need on the plane so you don’t end up lugging a ton of stuff with you.
