How to repurpose your content

With many people finding success in building a community on Instagram, it can be easy to get caught up in focusing all of your content creation for Instagram alone.

I get it, looking to create content on multiple channels can be exhausting. But what if I told you that you can just repurpose content you already have created and use that on multiple channels?

There are so many reasons why I love repurposing content and 100% live by it:
  • It saves a ton of time because I don’t need to recreate content and it allows me to focus more of my time on creating high-quality content that I can share across the board. Quality is certainly better than quantity. It’s better to get more views on that one piece of high quality content rather than minimal reach across several different pieces.
  • It allows me to get more eyes on one piece of content and target a different audience across my channels when I share it. While my messaging remains consistent across the board- I am still able to target different demographics and audiences on my different account.
  • You can redirect your audience to your different channels with that one piece of information. If you are trying to direct your followers to one specific channel/post- you can do it here. Simply sign off your post with something like:
    • For more content like this, find me on Instagram
    • Head to my blog for the full post
    • Find me on Pinterest for more useful information
Here’s some of the things I have had success in repurposing:
  • I’ve been repurposing my Instagram Reels onto my Pinterest stories and TikTok.
  • Repurpose a blog post into a reel to turn your blog post into a visual video
  • Repurpose an Instagram post onto Facebook
  • Repurpose a Pinterest pin into an Instagram story and a tweet

Those are just some of the ways I repurpose my content and there are so many ways you utilize one piece of content three ways. If you create video content (hint- if you are not you need to be) that can be easily shared across many channels and increase your reach substantially.

I recently posted this Instagram reel on why content creators need a business license. After posting the Reel, I shared it on my Pinterest account, which actually got more views than my Instagram. While the original intention was to create this piece of content for Instagram, I more than doubled my reach after repurposing it. I also used the content on my Instagram stories, tweeted it out and shared it on TikTok. That 1 piece of content was used 6 different ways!

The first image is a screenshot of my original content on Instagram and the second image is a screenshot of my repurposed content on Pinterest. Took me less than 5 minutes to repost it!

You can watch the reel here and read the full blog post here.

For every piece of content you create, you should set a goal to use it at least 3 different ways. Get creative with how you can use it, share it, and gain traction on it. We’re trying to work smarter here, not harder!

Here’s another set of graphics that I used to repurpose a pin into a set of stories for Instagram! These can also be easily turned into videos for IG reels, TikTok or more.

When creating content, you have to think of how it will benefit your audience and what you are hoping to gain out of the content you are posting. Every post, regardless of the outlet, should have some kind of takeaway to it- are you hoping to inspire someone, are you hoping to sell something, etc. Whatever it may be, just think of how to communicate that effectively and then create content to meet your goals.

The best part about repurposing your content is that it may surprise you with the amount of traction it gets on a platform it wasn’t even planned for. I thought my Instagram reels would get a ton of traction by repurposing on TikTok but that actually wasn’t the case. I found that using them on Pinterest stories has been the best way to keep the momentum going and get some additional views on my coverage.

Let’s talk a bit more about that video content

Video content is being favored on nearly every platform these days. Instagram is pushing their Reels before their posts and is favoring accounts who take advantage of ALL of the features they have to offer. Twitter recently rolled out their stories function and Pinterest has also jumped on the stories train. Pins on Pinterest tend to perform better when they are videos and a set of short videos that captures your audience attention can reach thousands of people easily.

So if you are not creating video content by now, it is time to start. With nearly every social platform favoring video content, it’s going to get more eyes on your content and allow you to reuse that video in many ways.
