Homeschooling resources

On day 285 of quarantine, or something like that… Since we are all in the same boat of juggling working from home, homeschooling and feeding kids who don’t stop eating, I thought it would be helpful to create a list of all of the resources we are using to make our homeschool life a bit easier.

Fun fact I may have not share- I was a preschool teacher for four years before switching careers and becoming a publicist. I feel like that inner teacher in me has come out and I’m excited to share all the resources I am using to help Ari with her daily schoolwork.

The way I am taking on homeschooling is through a reward system and letting the girls choose their own pace. They get a star every time they complete a lesson/worksheet and once they hit 50, they get a prize. It’s a great way to encourage kids to learn and the girls have been blowing me away with how much they want to do a day!

Reading Eggs

Reading Eggs is a great online program for kids. It teaches kids reading and math skills through fun games and activities. The programs are catered towards age and Ari and Nati both have fun moving up in the levels.

ABC Mouse

This is my first time using the program. I’ve heard great things about it and we received a free code from my school, you can go to abcmouse.com/redeem and enter your school info to get started for free. I have both of the girls using it and I love how they teach through interactive games. A fun way of learning for little ones!

Vooks

If you are looking to limit your kids’ TV time, Vooks provides a library filled with animated stories that are read to your kids. We love using Vooks before bed as a way to wind the girls down at the end of the day. They are offering one-month free by clicking the link here and have take-home lesson plans available!

Workbooks

Amazon has a ton of workbooks at a really good price. Search by your child’s grade level (or one above to challenge them) and keep it on hand for your daily homeschooling.

Pinterest

I created a whole Pinterest board with free printables. You can find anything from tracing, to math problems, to fun activities to just keep your kids busy.

Think outside the box

Kids thrive in a creative environment. I’m always thinking of ways to get the girls excited about learning. It may be taking your math lesson outside and using chalk for today’s math lesson or make PE class a fun dance party. You know your kids best and if you follow their lead and play on their interests, it will work out best for everyone!
