Fall shopping guide for toddler girls

While I’m able to pull out a lot of last year’s fall clothes for this season, the girls quickly outgrow pretty much everything each season. Luckily we live in California so we don’t have to worry about puffy jackets or coats for fall and we’re able to layer a lot of our summer pieces for a quick transition outfit!

In year’s past, I would just buy anything and everything I thought was cute, but this year I was much more organized with a different approach. I did that by:

  1. Shopping online and over a span of just a few days. This makes it easier to see what you are purchasing to make sure everything matches. For anything over your ideal price point, flag and wait for sales. I always monitor daily for this kind of stuff, especially if it’s not something that had a high sell-out risk.
  2. Sticking to a color palette– reds, neutrals and a couple of pink pieces because well, no toddler girl can escape a pink outfit.
  3. Only neutrals when it comes to shoes. Last year I bought Ari a pair of pink Hunters and it would just clash anytime she wore red or any bold color. This year, I bought both of the girls black Hunters and they match with everything. I also purchased a pair of black flats for dressy outfits and grey Mary Janes for easy on and off play shoes.
  4. Inventory check– take a look at what your kids currently have to see what they really need and what can be carried over from last season!
  5. Make a list of everything you need and how many of each item. Example– 3 long sleeves, 3 pairs of leggings 1 pair of jeans. This will help prevent over-shopping and help understand what you really need.

Once you’ve created a budget and shopping list, it’s time to move on to the fun part, shopping! Like I said, I always shop online so I can easily track spending, make sure outfits coordiante, etc.

Start with basics– it’s so much easier to build a wardrobe if you start with clothes that can be layered!

Add on the layers. I can’t stress how much I LOOOVE jumpsuits for the fall. It’s so easy to throw over a short or long sleeve tee and seriously such a staple when it comes to layers.

Sweaters– stick to a color that matches your color palette so you know everything will match!

Comfy play clothes with a touch of pink. I like to go with pink when it comes to play clothes. Since my girls love pink so much, they wear these often.

Accessories– All of the colorful socks, tights and scarves are what make fall so much fun. Great for layers and easy to mix and match for a change in an outfit’s look!

Occasion outfits– I’m usually one to stay away from pattern (unless it includes stripes or dots) but when it comes to parties and special occasion events, it’s fun to throw a little pattern in there! Throw a denim jacket and a pair of boots and you are good to go!
