Why not all influencers are making it

If you’re an influencer, chances are you are working on growing your following on Instagram. After all, it’s the biggest social platform right now and focusing on one platform all the time just seems easy, right?

Well, if you are just focusing on Instagram, it’s time for you to step out of your comfort zone and figure out what’s next. Whether you like creating videos, or writing, you need to find something else to help you grow past the platform.

While influencers are rising on Instagram every single day, brands put so much more value into those influencers who have a presence online. If video creation is your thing, the obvious next step would be to hop on YouTube. Or if you are like me and prefer writing, you need to establish your blog.

WHY?

First of all, putting all your eggs in one basket is never a good idea. You want to have options and being active across several social media platforms will give you an online presence. After all, you want to have actual influence, right? By putting yourself out there, you’ll appear on more search engines and have higher reach with different audiences.

The second reason-– brands prefer working with influencers who can provide a variety of content. Yes, I still get a lot of partnerships for just Instagram but I have a lot of brand partners who are interested in blog posts, Facebook and even Twitter and Pinterest. Having this media mix really helps bring their campaign full circle.

Reason number three? The future for any social media platform is always unclear. I know this is unlikely but what if one day Instagram just disappeared? Or what if your account gets hacked? I mean, we’ve all seen what happens when Instagram goes dark for just a few hours.

The fourth reason– Blog posts and vlogs can easily be recycled and re-shared. An Instagram post will show up once on someone’s feed, and sometime your followers won’t even see it thanks to the algorithm. However, you can recycle your same blog posts season after season and just tweak a few things and re-share. It will keep you in search engines and keep people coming back to your site.

Reason number 5– You are making yourself marketable and expanding your skill set by dabbing into different things and experimenting on new projects. I’m constantly learning from mistakes and trying to figure out new ways to help me get noticed in a crowded space. While my blog is not my biggest platform, it holds the most value. There’s valuable content that people read and share on their own.

Great post! I completely agree. Instagram is great but it is not my strongest platform unfortunately. BTW I see you’re from San Diego, same here 🙂
