How to plan a Valentine’s Day photoshoot at home

Cue all the hearts and all things pink and red. Like every holiday we’ve experienced in the past year, Valentine’s Day is also going to look different. No family outings, dinner dates, or gathering for a Valentine’s party with friends.

However, we can still make the best of it with a fun Valentine’s Day photoshoot at home!

The meaning of Valentine’s Day changes so much depending on what stage of life you are in.. at least it did for me. When I was in my teenage years, it was such a big deal to have a Valentine. A Valentine’s date was a must and I wanted flowers, dinner, the works. After kids, Valentine’s Day seems to focus all around your kids. I’d prefer to get flowers year-round just because and really don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day with Danny. However, we totally go all out for the kids.

Some of the ways we like to celebrate Valentine’s with the girls is:

  • With a festive breakfast. I’m taking heart pancakes, or a pink milkshake filled with heart sprinkles to create a festive meal for them.
  • With a sweet little gift. I like to get the girls something small every year. It may be a box of chocolates, a teddy bear, or maybe a basket of some of their favorite things. My mom did this for me as a kid and it’s so much fun doing it with the girls now.
  • With a family date. Last year, we went on a family vacation for Valentine’s weekend. We went on a family date to a nice restaurant, relaxed by the pool and really just enjoyed time together. It was so fun for all of us.
  • With a family game night. Spend time together at home and play board games, watching family friend- rom-coms and more.

The girls love getting dressed up for photos (seriously, you never have to ask them twice to get all dolled up for a photo shoot). Taking photos at home can be so much fun for everyone and a fun way to get some snaps of your kids all dressed up for Valentine’s.

Outfits

Bring your photos to life by coordinating fun Valentine’s coordinating outfits for your kids. It can be as simple as plain red dresses, or you can go all out with whimsical sweatshirts, tutus and more.

Some of my favorite places to shop for Valentine’s outfits are:

I love Plum TUTUs

The Wishing Elephant- for whimsical sweatshirts

Shop Friday Apparel- for Disney inspired tees

Props

Easiest and funnest way to get your kids excited for photos is with props. We bought a small helium tank and love having one on hand to blow up balloons for our photo shoots. Kids get so excited about balloons when taking photos and it’s guaranteed to bring smiles. I also picked up some heart confetti and let them throw it around for some fun Valentine’s themed photos.

There’s really not much to it! Just get your kids dressed up, create a festive mood for everyone and have fun with it.
