Living room toy storage

I’ve been on a major organization kick since the holidays. Everything from our kitchen and dining room, to closets and the playroom.

I’m one of those people that gets a vision and just runs with it. Room by room I am determined to have our house organized by the end of the month. We’re donating a ton of things and I’m selling stuff that we no longer use/need.

I decided to work on the toys first. After Christmas, I have an abundance of toys that the girls don’t play with and have outgrown. I started by dumping all the toys out into my living room and sorted through them. Ari is really good at helping and I’ve explained to her how her unwanted toys go to kids who don’t have any. Kids are so smart, and I highly recommend teaching them this at a young age, it goes a long way!

We donate all of our old toys to children living in Tijuana and also gave some toys and clothes to women and children living in safe homes in San Diego. If you don’t know where to find somewhere for donations, google your local homeless shelters or the Salvage Army, sometimes you can even arrange a pick-up of your items.

After I bagged up all of the give away toys, I separated toys by activity, what can the girls keep downstairs in the living room. I try to rotate these toys out so they don’t get bored. The rest goes straight to the playroom.

The best way to keep toys in the living room stored and out of sight?

  • An ottoman (like I have). In my opinion this is the best option because you can keep everything out of sight plus use it as a bench.
  • Cubbies— a good option if you want your kids to see what they have. I have cubbies in their playroom. Link to the bigger style here.
  • Oversized baskets— I have a ton of these. I use them for blankets, pillows, laundry, stuffed animals, you name it!

Here are some other favorite, all under $100
