Guess who’s swimming!

If you’ve been following us on Instagram the past couple of weeks, you probably know we’ve been spending a TON of time in the water this summer. The kids have such a blast, get extra tired (it’s seriously the best), and practice their swim skills without even realizing they’re doing it.

I started the girls out Aqua-Tots Swim School in Otay Ranch almost two months ago and they have made the most amazing progress. Arianna is swimming without floaties, killing it with her back float and diving into the pool. Natalia has also made amazing progress and is now submerging under water on her own (with me watching of course) and now understands her depth perception when in the water.

The girls go to swim class twice a week but we always work on their skills at our community pool at least one to two times a week to ensure they are strengthening their skills.

So why so much talk about swim classes? Let’s talk about some really unfortunate stats for a minute.. Drowning is the #1 cause of unintentional, injury-related death among children ages 1-4, and that fact is not limited to the summer calendar. Children are exposed to water on a daily basis, and it takes as little as 2 inches and 20 seconds to snatch a precious life.

These stats are seriously so sad to hear as a parent and I feel like we us parents have such a tremendous amount of responsibility to teach our kids how to swim. Not only is it important to enroll your kids in classes year-round, consistent reinforcement of what they are learning outside of class is SO important.

Consistent practice is life-saving and it’s all about being consistent and rooting our kids on along the way.I’m seriously blown away with how much the girls have learned over the past two months and even though Ari is swimming independently, I plan on keeping her in swim classes on a consistent basis to continue to strengthen these skills.

Aqua-Tots Swim Schools provides ALL new students with a free introductory class to assess your child’s swim level and if you don’t have your kid in swim classes, DO NOT sleep on this. After every class I get a report card for both of the girls so I can see their progress, as well as what areas we should focus on to improve their skills.
