How to create a shared bedroom for sisters

The girls have always shared a room and honestly they probably will for quite some time. Even when we had a bigger place, we still chose to keep the girls in a room together. There’s something special about having a sister and their bond makes them inseparable.

While the girls last shared space was more catered to a baby and a toddler, I knew it was time to transition the room to grow up with them when we move into our new house. 5 and 7 is still very close in age but the girls have different interests still. While they both love coloring and lounging around, Arianna steers more towards playing with her legos and reading books, while Natalia still love her barbie dolls and stuffed animals.

How do you create a space that caters to each of their needs without making it overwhelming? Lots of storage bins is a must for storing toys that don’t get pulled out often. We have an entire closet space with these World Market bins and love them. They’re not flimsy and they’re super easy to pull out and put back away, they come in 3 different sizes and we purchased a variety of them to store all their toys and tuck them away in their closet.

The girls bed is from Pottery Barn and while it’s a bit of splurge, the quality has definitely held up. We’ve had this bed for about 4 years and we all love it. It’s one of those pieces that I never want to part with it and the bed brings so much character to their room. Not only is it practical and functional, it serves as such a cute hang out space and a total statement piece.

Now that the girls are older, I wanted their room to be a space where they can just hang out on their own. They both helped with what colors they wanted for their room and we shopped for everything together. We went with a California vibes/pastel theme (totally making this up here but it’s what it feels like) and based the colors off this piece of art and everything tied together beautifully.

The nugget couch is what the girls gravitate most for playtime. I love that it stores neatly and serves as multi-purposes and the kids have a ton of fun wit it. They pull it out to make forts, practice gymnastics, and so much more. When it’s not in use, it serves as a perfect reading spot works great for sleepovers too. We purchased two nuggets to create this look.

Before we transition the girls into their “big girl room,” we had a classic Disney princess room. You can see how I used the same bunk bed for a totally different look here.
