Bucket List: 4 Hikes in Portland
A trip to Portland, Oregon has a lot to offer any traveler, but for any nature-lovers, it means hikes and more hikes. In and around Portland there is an abundance of hikes fit for all activity levels, and each one offers its own breathtaking views. Once I make a must-do trip to Portland, these are four hikes I won’t miss.
Opal Creek
Heading about an hour south of Portland will bring you to the Willamette Valley. Here you’ll find an abundance of 500-year-old trees towering over different rivers, lakes and waterfalls. This is a 4 mile hike that is suitable for all ages and any hiking level. It’ll take you through the quiet forest, leading you to the breathtaking Opal Pool. Opal Pool is a popular swimming hole. The water is shockingly blue, crystal clear and a perfect place to cool off on a hot day.
Angels Rest
Angels Rest is a 4.5 mile up & back hike near Corbett, Oregon. This hike takes you through the beautiful forestry of the Gorge, eventually making your way to the top, finding a gorgeous 360 view of the surrounding mountains and the Columbia River. This hike is slightly more difficult due to the incline, but definitely a must. It sounds like view is something you won’t forget.
Trail of Ten Falls
The Trail of Ten Falls is outside of Salem, which is less than an hour outside of Portland. This hike takes you on a loop through ten different waterfalls. The complete loop is 7.8 miles, but hikers can turn around whenever they please making it a comfortable distance for any level. The ten waterfalls all belong to Silver Falls State Park, which is one of Oregon’s most treasured state parks.
Bald Mountain
With unbelievable views of Mt.Hood, Bald Mountain is a must-do 2.0 mile round-trip hike. This hike intersects the Pacific Crest Trail, which is a beautiful long-distance trail popular for backpacking. Once you arrive at the summit of Bald Mountain, you’ll be greeted with a one of a kind view of Mt.Hood, as well as what used to be an old fire lookout in the 1940’s. This hike can feel a little more difficult due to the elevation gain, but the views at the top make it worth it.
