All inclusive resorts in Mexico- is it worth it and what does it cost?
So many conflicting opinions out there regarding all inclusive resorts and if they are really worth it. For us, we love traveling to all inclusive hotels, and with kids wanting to eat all day long, it just makes so much sense.
I’m here to break down what’s included during an all inclusive resort experience so you can decide for yourself if it worth it to you.
Most all inclusive resorts offer the following amenities as a part of their packages
All food and drinks included.
This is such a bonus when traveling with kids because you don’t have to worry about them saying they are hungry every other hour. However, not all-inclusive hotels have the best food so pay close attention to reviews. We’ve stayed at hotels in the past where we did not look into the food reviews and it was very disappointing but on the flip side, we’ve stayed at all inclusive resorts where have also experienced some of the best dining options (and at no cost). Some hotels do offer “premium” selections that are not a part of the all inclusive package but all fees should be provided upfront before purchasing.
When we say all food and drink is included- that means alcohol too. Order all the Pina coladas you want while hanging out at the pool because you won’t be paying extra for those.
Many people insist all inclusive resorts are not worth the money if you are not going to be hanging out at a resort all day and I agree somewhat. However, whenever we travel, we always begin our day with breakfast at our resort (free), do a day time activity off-site, and usually do dinner back at our hotel (free), and we still find it worth it.
When you find a resort you have set your mind on, I highly encourage you to dig through all of the reviews to see reviews on the food and to help you decide what type of package you would want to book.
Nightly entertainment
If you’ve ever been on a cruise, you can expect to see very similar entertainment options at all-inclusive resorts. You’ll experience broadway-style shows, dance parties, musical acts and so much more.
Daytime games
The kids LOVE hanging out at a hotel pool and most all-inclusive resorts will provide guests with a jam-packed schedule of activities by the hour to participate in. This can vary from stretching, cooking classes, yoga on the beach, water volleyball, and so much more. Make sure you pay close attention to the hotels’ schedule so you can map out any activities you want to do in advance.
What does it cost?
We just got back from our yearly trip to Villa Del Palmar in Los Cabos. We’ve been traveling to the hotel since Arianna was just a baby and we keep coming back because of the stellar service and amenities offered at the resort. If you are looking for a fun and family friendly getaway, I highly recommend this hotel. I also recommend this resort because it is a great bang for your buck.
Let’s break this down a bit further…
I like to monitor prices at a hotel for about a week to see if there are drops on certain days. For example, I have noticed that the prices at Villa Del Palmar tend to drop a bit on the weekend as they offer “weekend sales.” Of course depending on the time of year that you plan to travel, it will also impact the cost of your trip.
We have traveled to Villa Del Palmar in May (Memorial Day) and November (pre-Thanksgiving) and the cost for a family of 4 for 4 nights/5days is usually around $1,200. If you break that down, that is $300 a day, and under $100 A PERSON!
If you are a larger family, you can still find yourself a great deal because the Villa Del Palmar offers 2-bedroom suites, along with a penthouse. We booked the penthouse for our part of 7 on our last trip and it came out to $3,800 for a 4 night stay. The amenities that came along were well worth it, and you can get a tour of the penthouse here.
