Where to find the best tacos in San Diego

Reason #565 why I love San Diego- we have the BEST tacos. This is like a known fact and if you ask any San Diegan that has moved away, they will be the first to tell you that they miss San Diego’s taco scene.

With so many restaurants serving up delicious tacos, all in a unique way, I thought it would be fun to share some of MY favorite taco restaurants in San Diego and what to order at each.

Puesto

A few years ago Puesto arrived in San Diego and it does NOT disappoint. Located in La Jolla, Seaport Village & Mission Valley and home to one of my favorite tacos- the filet mignon taco. This taco is SO good and extra fancy- it’s made with filet mignon that is wrapped in crispy melted cheese, topped with spicy pistachio salsa and other toppings.

Tj Oyster Bar

Located in South San Diego, you will find one of the most popular fish taco restaurants. TJ Oyster Bar is so popular that they have three locations within just a few miles of each other. The fish tacos are widely popular but my personal favorites are the smoked tuna tacos, followed by chipotle shrimp tacos. Not in the mood for tacos? Try either of these on top of fries!

Las Cuatro Milpas

One of the most popular taco restaurants in San Diego is La Cuatro Milpas. Prepare to show up early as they sell out quick, and expect to wait in line to order your food.

El Indio

Looking for rolled taquitos? You’ll definitely want to head to El Indio. There’s nothing better than homemade rolled taquitos from an authentic Mexican restaurant and THIS is the spot you want to order from. They also have really good tamales, chips, and desert so save room when you order!

Birria tacos

Birrieria y Menuderia Guadalajara is located in Chula Vista and has the most delicious birria tacos. Go early because they run out by the afternoon and trust me, tacos for breakfast is a good idea. I always purchase the beef (birria de res) but you can also get other traditional meats as well.
